Mike is a native of Westfield, Massachusetts, and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Loyola High School in Towson, Maryland, and he immediately entered the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon graduation from the Naval Academy in 1975, Mike was commissioned as an active duty Naval Officer, serving five years as a Surface Warfare Officer on combatant ships.
Upon leaving the Navy in 1980, Mike began his career in the financial services industry as an investment broker with Merrill Lynch. Since then, he has worked for the BGS&G Companies as President of its investment subsidiary, Alex. Brown & Sons, and the New York Life Insurance Company. He became an independent financial advisor in 1994 with the formation of his previous firm, Community Pride Financial Advisors LLC.
As an independent financial advisor, Mike worked extensively with individuals, couples, their families, and friends to provide financial solutions to help them achieve personal success and prosperity. In 2014, Mike merged his company into a new firm, Athlon Wealth Advisors LLC, co-founded by himself and his business partner, Chris Schipske. As a Managing Partner of Athlon, Mike is helping transform the company into a leading financial and life solutions firm, ready to meet the regulatory and industry challenges of the future. These efforts have resulted in an exciting new firm, Athlon Advisors, and broadening the services offered to include comprehensive services in tax and bookkeeping, financial planning and investment management, insurance services, small business services, and OSJ services. Mike is FINRA licensed series 7, 24, 31, 63, and 65, as well as Life & Health Insurance licensed. He has been affiliated with Cambridge Investment Research Inc. and Cambridge Investment Research Advisors Inc. since 1999.
Mike lives in the Canton section of Baltimore City. He is active in numerous charitable and civic organizations, including the Harlem Baseball Hitting Academy, the St. Francis Neighborhood Center, Samaritan Women, and the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association. His personal interests include worldwide travel (ask him about some of the crazy experiences he’s had in 58 countries … and counting), working out and living a healthy lifestyle, writing a book (based upon a unique Navy experience), and spending time with friends.
